Summer Movies

I've been meaning to write about my two most highly-anticipated movies of the summer (of the year! of my life!) and I am happy to say they were both awesome!

***BTW if you haven't seen these then stop reading right now!***

Sex And the City: The Movie
This movie was all that I expected it to be and more... I loved how the characters still rang true to themselves; it was kind of like watching an extended version of the show. I still can't get over how long it was! I had to pee about 1/4 of the way into the movie, and thinking it was almost over, decided to hold it. Eventually I caved and then realized there was still like 2 hours left!
I loved that they had Samatha living in L.A. - my only complaint was all the scenes of her sitting around bored, wishing she was in New York. We got it. And what was up w/ Smith?? Was that bad plastic surgery, or did he just age weird? In any case, Big was still the hottest guy on the show. Although it would have been nice to have some sort of reoccurance of Aidan. And although the ending with Big was completely predictable, it was nice to see it finally happening for real this time. One thing I noticed during the final proposal scene though was that Carrie seemed to have lost her "voice" again. If anyone has seen the commentary version of the episode where Carrie moves to Paris, you'll know what I mean. Man, it's a good thing I don't write movie reviews, huh, cause I'm pretty much giving away the whole thing!
Oh, and my only teensy-weensie other nerdy complaint is that Carrie's password was supposedly "love" -- hello??? Who has a non-alphanumeric password these days? Will a computer even let you do that? They could have at least said: "with a zero for the o" or something like that. ;)
But my overall consensus of the movie = awesome!

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
So, my Indiana Jones review isn't nearly as in-depth, as the movie itself was kind of, um, glossy, but that's okay, I still loved it! I wasn't expecting much and was just excited that they made another movie in the first place. I've been awaiting this moment since high school! And while there were definite cheese elements (like the "crystal skull" looked like it weighed about 3 ounces!), you still felt like: wow! I'm watching Indiana Jones! the whole way through, which was cool. I think we all forgot about why the were on a journey and to where about halfway through the movie (especially after the tri-waterfall drop, ha), but it really didn't matter. I'd see it again any day! A great popcorn flick! And what better excuse to get a break from the baby! Thanks to the hubby :)

Four Month Stats

Inspired by Madison's buddy Sadie, I've decided to post her 4-month stats on here! I was looking back through Sadie's backlisted pages (see "June 2007" on the bottom right of Chillable) and realized that her mommy was a lot better about listing out Sadie's milestones and developments along the way....

Like -- for instance -- Madison rolled over! Like two weeks ago! On the 13th I remember because I wrote it in her baby book. :) Of course, it may have been a fluke because she hasn't done it again since then, but it was spectacular! Todd & I were both watching when it happened, which made it even better. She rolled tummy-to-back in a fit of baby frustration.

Other updates -- she had her 4-month checkup the other day (and shots!!) and measured up as follows:
- Weight: 14 lbs 12 oz (~60th percentile)
- Height: 25 3/4 inches (~80th percentile)
- Head circumference: 16 1/2 inches

She is cooing and laughing and saying a lot of "ah-goo"s and "ah-gee"s, but hasn't had a peep anywhere close to "mama" or "dada" yet. Although Todd claims she said "da" one day which is close, but I wasn't there so it is questionable....

She's still eating only breast milk, and although the doc gave us the OK to start rice cereal, she also warned us that started solids too soon before 6 months can lead to food allergies. Especially if there is a history of allergies in the family (hello, Sanfords). So we're kind of holding off on the solids until she seems "interested." (according to the doc, we'll know! she'll be grabbing the food off our plates! or something like that..)

And the sleeping-through-the-night thing may have also been a fluke, I'm afraid, as it hasn't happened again in a while.... Usually our nighttime schedule goes something like this:
- 7:30/8pm start getting ready for bed
- 8:30pm out like a light
- 9:30pm awake and wailing - followed by a feeding - this, the books call the "midnight snack" even tho for us it is nowhere close to midnight
- 2:30am/3am awake - feeding, back to sleep
- 6:30am awake - feeding, back to sleep
- 8/8:30am - the morning begins!

So, we are pretty much always up twice a night for feedings, sometimes three times if you count that first one. From talking with friends in my new moms group, this is relatively normal for a 4-month-old, but a lot of people are able to ween their babies off that second morning feeding by just doing a passy and making lots of comforting "shush" sounds. For Madison, that hasn't seemed to work. She wants to be held, she wants the real deal. Sometimes I send Daddy in if I for sure know she's not hungry, but unfortunately the breast is our one failsafe to get her to fall back asleep, so I usually whip it out. If you can believe it, though, she is a stellar nap-taker!

Anyhooooooo, for those of you reading this who don't have a child, I'm sure you're like, what the -- ?? But trust me, all of this becomes MUCH more interesting after you've had a baby!!! You can have hour-long discussions about diaper rash, spitup, and whatnot! Who knew?!

Oh - and last but not least, for comparison ---

chillin poolside

Yay! I finally took Madison for her very first dip in the pool! It was so much fun, I can't wait to do it again! She seemed to really like it and kept running her hands through the water. She had fun holding hands with baby Sophia and didn't even cry when they got splashed by the big bad 5-year-olds!

Of course, next time she'll wear the special diapers so her butt doesn't weigh 500 lbs when I take her out....!

MNO @ the IG!

Last night was Mommy's Night Out at the Indigo Girls show in Denver-- wooohooooo!!! Everyone knows what a die-hard Indigo Girls fan I am, but honestly I could've been anywhere and would have had a blast. It was great to get a break from MommyVille!!!

It was actually a lot more fun than the show we went to last summer (while Madison was in utero!). There was sort of a communal wine-drinking, casual, I'm-here-to-hang-out-and-not-necessarily-a-fan-of-the-Indigo-Girls vibe, but that's okay -- better than the You-must-remain-in-your-seat-and-not-dance-or-talk vibe of the Chautauqua show!

I would have loved for us to bring our "girls" along (Madison & Bailey), but it was a little late and outside and in Denver and all... Yeah, I'm a mom. We did see some brave souls w/ their babies there tho!

Here are a couple clips from the cellie-- the 1st was our wedding song (!!) and the 2nd was a little jam w/ a dude from the Bonnaroo fest. Can't remember his name but he was folkalicious!

photo shoot

A super-long nap and a full tummy made for a very smiley 1st-ever photo session yesterday! Great timing on our part!

Chances are if you read this blog, you'll be getting a pic in the mail, but here is a preview :)

What I've Learned... -- Part 2

  • 3-Day Blinds doesn't necessarily mean "Blinds in three days," as one would think. It's more like "3-Week Blinds" or "Eventually, Blinds....."
  • When we first brought Madison home from the hospital, and we were completely buried, and everyone said it would get easier, they were right! It eventually does get "easier" in that REALLY you get more used to it. And luckily the babies get cuter. Much cuter! And, well, you can't send them back...
  • When I was pregnant, I remember thinking, I can't wait til I have the baby! Then I can drink coffee, wine, beer, eat bon-bons every day (ha, not that I would eat bon-bons, but you know). But it's pretty much the opposite! Thanks to breastfeeding and its wily ways, I am way more aware of the food/drink I take into my body than I ever was when I was preggers! oh well, it's not forever..... I was able to give up caffeine so now I know anything's possible!
  • And there are more to come I'm sure...........
