It's that time of year again

Yes, it's that time of year again. Time to strap on your cross-trainers and hit the streets of Boulder. Time for us regular people to mingle with the athletically elite. Time for us to feel like superstars!

For those who don't know what I'm talking about, the "Bolder Boulder" (yes, a dumb name, I admit) is about the biggest event in this town all year round. People come from all over the world to run it.

I, too, was skeptical. When I first moved to Boulder and heard about the much-hyped Bolder Boulder, I was like "what?" "Boulder Boulder??" "what?" And overall just wondered, "What is with all these healthy people?!"

I mean really, how could all this fuss be made over a silly race? And it's not like it's even a marathon! It's a freakin 10k!

So, anyone who knows me knows I am not exactly the most athletic person in the world... And I still don't entirely understand what all the fuss is about. Honestly. But, somehow, here I am writing about it, and yes I am doing it, so you know I eventually bought into the hype!

A friend of mine at work showed me how to look up past individual running results, which we did the other day and got all excited about. (click on the pic to see results bigger)

It appeared that I had run it in 1999 with a time of 1 hour, 1 minute. Pretty sweet, I thought. We looked this up right around the time we were filling out our registration packets so I thought: Hey, I did it then, why not now? So I checked "60-minute runner" on the form. I will be in the "F" wave with runners who regularly run a 10k in under an hour.

Sooooo, only problem is, um, I wasn't 32 years old in 1998. Which is what the race results said. Now, I realize everything after 30 is a blur, especially when we're talking the late-nineties, but holy crap! In 1998 I was actually under 30(!), which means the runner in those results wasn't even me! There was somehow (the horror!) another Kristin Kennedy running around this town in 1998 who had the audacity to beat my time! Nice.

So here I am, less than a week before the race, and I just realized I am in the wrong wave. Ahh, runner's drama. I guess things could be worse. I could get stung by a bee on my foot or something. Oh wait! That happened, too!

Is someone trying to tell me something??

I promise this isn't self-sabotage.....

And against all odds, I am still hopeful that I can do it in under an hour! Or, well, under an hour and fifteen minutes anyway... :) Fingers and toes crossed!

I'll keep you posted....
